HERMetic Sampler GT4 Chem – 4-Inch Large Volume Gas Tight Sampler for Marine

HERMetic Sampler GT4 Chem
for Marine Applications

Honeywell Tanksystem's HERMetic Sampler GT4 is a 4-inch portable large volume sampler with a sampling capacity of approximately 1.8 litres. It is ideal for gas tight sampling of liquids that present a fire, health or air pollution hazard, and for applications where a large sample volume is required in a single operation.

What Is It?

The HERMetic Sampler GT4 is the go-to solution for large volume closed sampling — ideal when more than 0.5 litre of liquid is required from a single sampling operation. Its gas tight construction avoids any vapour release from the tank and completely eliminates operator exposure to fumes during the operation.

The sampler housing is mounted on top of the HERMetic 4-inch deck valve. Transfer of the liquid from the sampling bottle to a laboratory bottle occurs by opening the transfer valve at the bottom of the sampler. All along the sampling process, the system remains tight and the operator is never exposed to VOC emissions.

The HERMetic Sampler GT4 is delivered with a zone sampling bottle. Spot, bottom and running bottles are available on request.

Key Use Cases

  • Gas tight sampling of liquids that present fire, health or air pollution hazards
  • When more than 0.5 litre of liquid is required in a single operation
  • Crude oil, refined petroleum products, and chemical tanker applications
  • When the HERMetic 4-inch deck valve is installed on the vessel
  • Zone, spot, running and bottom sampling scenarios
  • Compliant with API MPMS Chapter 17.11 and custody transfer requirements

How Does It Work?

The HERMetic Sampler GT4 allows easy installation on the 4-inch deck valve. The sampling height can be read on the graduated tape, while the sampling bottle can be easily removed by opening the top of the sampler housing. A pump can be connected to the winder to accelerate and complete the transfer of fluid into the laboratory bottle.

Technical specifications:

  • Tape length: 30m / 100ft standard — 50m available on request
  • Capacity of sampling bottles: up to 1.8 litres
  • Transfer method: Gravity through transfer valve at bottom of sampler
  • ATEX Certificate: KEMA 06ATEX0027 (II 1G c IIB T6)

What Problems Does It Solve?

The HERMetic Sampler GT4 ensures closed gas tight sampling of liquids that pose a fire, health or air pollution hazard. It permits collection of a representative sample of the tank content for further laboratory analysis. In addition to safer operations, users benefit from lower operation and maintenance costs.

HERMetic Sampler GTN Chem – Septum-Sealed Closed Sampling for Chemical Tankers

HERMetic Sampler GTN Chem
for Marine Applications

The HERMetic Sampler GTN Chem is dedicated to applications where closed sampling is required and the sampled liquid must avoid any contact with the atmosphere in order to maintain its specifications and avoid contamination. Uniquely, it transfers the liquid into a septum-sealed laboratory bottle under completely closed conditions.

What Is It?

The HERMetic Sampler GTN Chem is a portable gas tight sampler with liquid transfer under completely closed conditions into a septum-sealed laboratory bottle. This transfer guarantees the integrity of the sample since the liquid never comes into contact with the atmosphere.

A closed vapour recovery system dispatches the vapours back into the tank during transfer of the liquid into the sealed laboratory bottle — making it the most advanced closed sampling solution available for chemical tankers.

The sampler is ideal in the following cases:

  • When a representative sample of the content is required
  • For clean chemicals or refined products where sample purity is critical
  • When the sample must avoid any atmospheric contact to maintain specifications
  • When no gas release is permitted during sampling operation
  • For connection on 2-inch HERMetic compact valves exclusively

How Does It Work?

The HERMetic Sampler GTN Chem allows easy installation on 2-inch vapor control valves with quick connect coupling. After sampling, the liquid can be transferred into a septum-sealed laboratory bottle. The closed vapour recovery system ensures vapours return to the tank — not the atmosphere — during the entire transfer process.

  • Max tank overpressure: 0.3 bar / 4.4 psi
  • Tape length: 30m / 100ft
  • Capacity of sampling bottles: ~0.5 litre
  • Laboratory bottle capacity: 0.47 l / 16 oz
  • Gasket material: FFKM (corrosive chemical resistant)
  • Materials: Stainless steel AISI 316, PTFE, PVDF
  • Unit weight: 7.5 kg

What Problems Does It Solve?

The HERMetic Sampler GTN Chem ensures safety by preventing exposure to potential fire, health and air pollution hazards. Additionally, it ensures that the sample taken is never altered or contaminated due to atmospheric contact — critical for clean chemicals and high-specification refined products. Users benefit from lower operation and maintenance costs.

GTN Chem vs GTX Chem: Both connect to 2-inch HERMetic compact valves and offer ATEX Zone 0 certified closed sampling. The key distinction is that the GTN Chem uses a septum-sealed laboratory bottle with a closed vapour recovery system — ideal when the sample must never touch the atmosphere. The GTX Chem uses overpressurization transfer and is better suited for high/low viscosity chemical applications.

HERMetic Samplers A-2 and A-4 for Restricted Operations – Crude Oil Tankers VLCCs

HERMetic Samplers for
Restricted Operations

Honeywell's HERMetic Samplers A-2 and A-4 are dedicated to applications where restricted sampling is authorized. A restricted system exists when a marine tank vessel allows some vapors from its cargo tanks into the atmosphere under normal operating conditions. Used for crude oil sampling on tankers and VLCCs.

HERMetic Sampler A-2 — 2-Inch Restricted

  • Connects to 2-inch HERMetic compact valves with quick connect coupling
  • For applications involving liquids with low or high viscosity
  • Ideal for use under open / restricted operations
  • Sampling height can be measured on the graduated tape
  • Sampling bottle can be easily removed and exchanged
  • Delivered with a zone sampling bottle — spot, running and bottom bottles available on request

HERMetic Sampler A-4 — 4-Inch Large Volume Restricted

  • For large volume sampling of up to 1.8 litres under open / restricted operations
  • Easy installation on a 4-inch HERMetic deck valve
  • Sampling height can be read on the graduated tape
  • Sampling bottle can be easily removed and exchanged
  • Delivered with zone sampling bottle — spot, running and bottom sampling bottles also available
  • Primarily used for crude oil sampling aboard VLCCs and large tankers

How Does It Work?

The sampler housing is mounted on top of the HERMetic 2-inch ball valve or 4-inch deck valve, depending on the sampler model. The sample is taken through vertical movement of the sampling bottle inside the liquid. The bottle is linked to a graduated tape and a reading window allows users to monitor bottle location during operation.

What Problems Does It Solve?

Honeywell's restricted operation samplers offer easy installation, low costs and clean sampling operations. They permit taking a representative sample of the tank content for further laboratory analysis, while meeting MARPOL requirements for restricted-type vessels.

Restricted vs Closed Operation: The A-2 and A-4 samplers are for restricted operation — some vapors may enter the atmosphere. For fully closed gas tight sampling with zero vapor release, choose the GTX Chem, GT4, or GTN Chem instead.

Sampling Bottle Types

All HERMetic samplers can be fitted with four different sampling bottle types. Each bottle is engineered for a specific sampling requirement. The sampler is always delivered with a zone sampling bottle; other types are available on request.

🔵 Zone Bottle

Allows sampling of the upper level inside the tank. Provides a composite sample representative of the top zone of the cargo. The most commonly used bottle for routine inspections and custody transfer verification.

🎯 Spot Bottle

Allows sampling at a precise, predetermined height within the tank. Critical for stratified or layered cargoes where specific layers must be analyzed independently.

🔄 Running Bottle

Allows sampling all along the displacement of the bottle inside the tank — providing a composite sample truly representative of the entire liquid column. Required by API MPMS Chapter 8.1 for running sampling.

⬇ Bottom Bottle

Allows sampling of the tank bottom. Critical for detecting free water, sediments, or bottom contamination. Essential for custody transfer compliance and MARPOL inspections.

Standard delivery: All HERMetic samplers are delivered with a zone sampling bottle as standard. Spot, running and bottom bottles are available on request. The GT4 and GTN Chem bottles hold up to 1.8 L (GT4) and ~0.5 L (GTN), respectively. Bottles are fully interchangeable within the same valve size category.
